Our Leadership Team is comprised of the Superintendent of Schools, one Assistant Superintendent, four building Principals, the High School Assistant Principal andAthletic/ Activities Director, the Director of Instructional and Special Programs and a Technology Coordinator. The Leadership Team is responsible for the daily operations of the school district and for the successful implementation of all student programs and services.
It is our goal to provide exceptional service to every student, parent, and employee each and every day.
Ed Longfield – Superintendent
Mr. Longfield has served children for the last 20 years as a high school teacher/coach, middle school assistant principal, elementary principal, and Assistant Superintendent. Ed grew up in Monument, Colorado and is a 3rd generation Colorado Springs native. “I am thrilled to be the Superintendent of Manitou Springs School District 14. The students and staff are simply amazing, and there is unbelievable support from the parents and community for this school system. I intend to build upon the very strong foundation of relationships, rigor and opportunity and serve children so that they are able to thrive in the 21st Century economy/world. “ Ed publishes a short newsletter every week called “Mustang Mondays”. You will be able to find its link on the home page. Please take 5 minutes each week to read the publication—it provides quick insights into what is happening in MSSD 14.

Tim Miller, Assistant Superintendent
Tim came to the district in July 2006. Prior to then he was a financial manager for over six years with Edison Schools, working with charter schools in Colorado and Nevada. He is also retired from the U.S. Army, having served over 22 years in a variety of field artillery, aviation, and comptroller assignments in the U.S., Germany and the Middle East. He has a BS in business administration from The Citadel, an MS in systems management from the University of Southern California, and an MBA from Syracuse University.

Pat Urban, Director of Instructional and Special Programs
Ms. Urban’s responsibilities include supervision in the areas of Special Education, Title I services, English Language Development, Gifted and Talented programming, preschool, and Section 504. Pat has served as a speech pathologist and special education consultant in the area of inclusion for the Harrison School District and as a classroom teacher in grades 2 – 7 in Oklahoma. She received a B.S. degree from Phillips University in Speech Pathology and Audiology, a B.S. degree from the University of Wyoming in Elementary Education, a Masters degree in Speech Pathology from the University of Cincinnati and a Masters degree in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs.

Laurie Wood, Director of Partners for Healthy Choice
Laurie Wood loves working with Manitou Springs School District 14 and the communities of Cascade, Chipita Park, Cedar Heights, Green Mountain Falls and Manitou Springs as the Director of Partner for Healthy Choices. She works extensively with the school and community in providing opportunities for youth to make choices that will positively affect their lives. Laurie has been an integral part of furthering community partnerships so that youth and families are empowered and connected. She has an extensive background in education from teaching preschoolers to lecturing in a college environment. She earned her undergraduate degree from Cornell University in Human Development and Family Studies and holds a MAT in Education from Colorado College. Laurie and her husband Steve have a son Jake who is a freshman at Middlebury College

Justin Armour, Student Liason/ Partners for Healthy Choice and Head Football Coach
Justin grew up in Manitou Springs and enjoyed success as a Mustang student-athlete before earning a BA in Public Policy from Stanford University. His athletic career extended 5 years into the NFL, including a Super Bowl winning season with the Denver Broncos. Following football, Justin and his family lived in Baja, Mexico for four years where he helped develop and operate a skatepark/community center for local youth while hosting a health/wellness camp for youth groups and families. The business expanded to Encinitas, CA, to include elite fitness training and nutrition support for clients. After volunteering to teach P.E. at a small private school near his home, Justin discovered a passion for working with kids in an educational environment. His responsibilities at the school expanded to Athletic Director and Health teacher before moving his family back to Manitou Springs. Justin is married to Cara and has a son, Joah, and a daughter, Avah. He is currently the Head Football Coach for the Mustangs.

Cathrine (Cat) Butler-Olimb, Technology Coordinator
Cat grew up in Oslo, Norway. She has a Business/Marketing degree from Wang Business School in Oslo and a degree in Graphic Design from IPA Design School. Cat is married to Andrew and they have two children, Emilie, a engineering student at Virginia Tech and Anders a Business student at CSU. They love traveling, and have lived in Oslo, Tel Aviv and The Hague. While living in Israel she was the Director of The American Embassy School and in The Netherlands she worked as the MS Technology Coordinator/Webmaster at the American School of The Hague. Cat is excited to be living and working in Colorado Springs, her husband's home town. Cat is an avid skier and spend most weekends in Breckenridge or Vail, having fun with family and friends.

Glenn Hard, Principal Manitou Springs High School
Mr. Hard is entering his 16th year at Manitou Springs High School, and his first year as Principal. He has served as an educator for a total of 18 years in Colorado. At Manitou Springs High School he has taught various sciences for a total of 8 years, and served as the Director of Athletics and Activities for 7. Mr. Hard received his B.A. in Biology and M.A. in Education Leadership from Adams State College in Alamosa, Colorado. Mr. Hard especially enjoys spending time with his wife Chris and his daughter Shelby. He also enjoys hunting, fishing, hiking Colorado’s 14ers, riding motorcycles, running and lifting weights. He is a 1986 graduate of Manitou Springs High School, is a lifelong resident of Colorado, and plans to never leave.

Jay Woodard, Instructional Support
Mr. Woodard was Assistant Principal at Manitou Springs High School for the previous 14 years. His current responsibilities include instructional support for District 14. His focus is learning and teaching about teaching and learning. He also will assist in managing Restorative Justice for students and educators in District 14. He taught and coached in Missouri and Illinois. He was previously an assistant principal at Danville (IL) High School and Rifle (CO) High School. He was originally from Danville, has a B.A. in Speech from William Jewell College, an M.A. in Speech Communication from the University of Illinois, and Educational Administration certification from Illinois State University..

John McGee, Athletic/Activity Director for District 14
John received his Bachelor of Science in Industrial Education at the University of Southern Colorado, Pueblo and then received his MA in Educational Leadership, at the University of Colorado in Colorado Springs. John taught many subjects including high school math, drafting and woodworking. He was the Principal at Holy Trinity in Colorado Springs and Dean of Students at Holy Family High School in Broomfield, CO. He has also coached other football teams and girls basketball. John is married with three children.

Chris Burr, Principal Manitou Springs Middle School
Prior to coming to Manitou, Chris worked as an assistant principal at both the middle and elementary levels. He began his career as a middle school teacher, and was a 5th grade teacher just prior to becoming an administrator. He has enjoyed living in Colorado much of his life, with his wife and two children, and they enjoy all of the great outdoor activities one can do here in Colorado.

Cameron Jones, Assistant Principal Manitou Springs Middle School
Cameron has been working at Manitou Springs Middle School since 2002. Graduating from the University of Northern Colorado, he has taught Physical Education, served as the middle school Athletic Director, and currently is the middle school Assistant Principal. Cameron has a beautiful family of three. His wife Lindsay is currently a school counselor in Widefield District 3. His two kids, Jeaden and Kaleena, attend Manitou Elementary school. When not serving students his hobbies include playing sports, hunting, fly-fishing, and archery. Cameron is also the 8th grade boy’s basketball coach.

Russ Vogel, Principal Manitou Elementary School
Prior to his career In education, Mr. Vogel was a writer/editor/adventurer at The Worthington Globe, the University of Minnesota, International Business Information in Tokyo, Wiley Law Publications, UniStar Radio Networks, the U.S. Olympic Committee, and a salmon plant in Galena, AK. He began his education career at Remington Elementary in Colorado Springs, where he taught Fourth Grade and was Vice Principal. He holds a Bachelor of Journalism Degree from the University of Missouri, a Bachelor’s in Education from Adams State College, and a Masters in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Colorado. Mr. Vogel was The Gazette’s 1999 NIE Teacher of the Year. He became principal of Manitou Springs Elementary in August 2004. He has three wonderful daughters—Kelcey, Kirstin, and Kaitlin—in Manitou Springs schools.

Chris Briggs-Hale, Ute Pass Elementary
Chris Briggs-Hale is the Principal of Ute Pass Elementary School. He has experience as a classroom teacher, principal, and an educational consultant. He has served as a senior consultant at Mid-continent Research for Education and Learning (McREL), an associate with the Marzano Research Laboratory, and a member of the National Board of Directors for Community of Caring in Washington, DC. Chris has led and conducted numerous presentations and workshops on school improvement and reform for community groups, administrators, and elementary, middle, and high school teachers in more than a dozen states. Chris received the 2004 Sally K. Lenhardt Professional Leadership Award from Lesley University and was named 2004 Community of Caring National Administrator of the Year.
